Let There Be Light {Session Scheduling}

Ah, that golden glow. If you have booked with me, it’s likely I have strongly suggested either a sunrise or sunset session. While not all sessions can be booked during this time frame, I find it important to share some key tips on session timing & the overall impact on final images. The truth is I am chasing the “magic hour” when the sun creates a beautiful cast.

As a portrait photographer, having the ability to shoot in wide range of conditions is necessary. Some lighting conditions are more challenging, with direct sunlight being less than ideal. Photos captured in direct sun may create bright spots on the face, dark shadows on the undereye or in some cases a squint. To avoid harsh lighting conditions I prefer to book portrait sessions during the magic hour.

Sometimes referred to as the golden hour, this time of day is shortly after sunrise or just prior to sunset. During this time of day the sun creates a softer light. In addition to impacting the final images, this time of day offers more flexibility with location scheduling. The below images were taken during the golden/magic hour & are a great example of the soft, beautiful, golden light.
